Could Shingles Be Contagious?

Hi I was just told today I have shingles. They get me a prep and said it is contagious for people taking chemo, pregnant, or kids. How long am I contaigious and can my husband get it he has had chicken pox. I am 45 years old. And the blisters are on my left arm. My skin hurts on my arm, my left side back and my left leg. Blisters are just on my are. Dr said it is impossible for my leg to hurt.
