Could Small Cysts In Ovary For Long Time Be Benign?

Had an ultrasound 9 months ago. Pain on right side continued (worsened a bit) and I had another ultrasound today. The technician said there was a small cyst over the ovary. Is it possible for harmless cysts to last 8-9 months and hurt, but still be benign? I am only 39 (with a 3 year old). Very worried.
