Could Sore To Touch Adam's Apple Be Due To Enlarged Thyroid?

I went to the dentist about a month Ago. He told me that I had an enlarged thyroid and I should get it tested. I did not see my doctor, but I blood work that came back normal. I have a cold now and for about two days and I woke up today with a very sore Adams apple. Its very sore to touch especially when I hold my head back. Not like a Sore throat. Very different. What could it be?
