Could The Compression Boot Be Restrained From Wearing By Keeping The Leg Elevated?

I have an undisplaced break in my fifth metatarsal and was given a moon boot to wear and told I can take it off for sleeping. Can I also leave the boot off when I am resting at home with the foot elevated? I am wearing a compression tube at all times except for the shower.
