Could Vaginal Itching Be Normal While Suffering With Yeast Infection?

I thought I may have had a yeast infection and got a monistat 1 extra strength on Saturday. Since I am still itching and now there is a smell. its that normal? I had sex last month for the first time in almost a year...So I am not very sexually active.
