Dear Dr. Rynne, I Had An Endoscopic Discectomy For A

Dear Dr. Rynne,
I had an endoscopic discectomy for a ruptured disc between L5 and S1 performed 4 weeks ago. After the surgery I was given 500mg tablets of Methycobal to take 3 times/day. Immediately after surgery the pain in my sciatic nerve was gone, numbness in my foot and weakness in my calf muscle still persist.

My question is: can I take vitamin B12 instead of the Methycobal, or should I renew the Methycobal prescription?

I am an American working in Singapore, 55 years old with high blood pressure but otherwise in good health.

Thank you for your time. This is quite a service.
