Dear Sir/Madam, I'm A Newcomer To Canada, Winnipeg. In Ukraine

Dear Sir/Madam,

I'm a newcomer to Canada, Winnipeg. In Ukraine (my native county) I was wearing contact lenses and when I came I found out that I can't by them free, only by prescription. Could you please advise me shall I just make an appointment with any ophthalmologist in Winnipeg for general eye exam (in order to receive the prescription for lenses)? Or what are my actions in such a case?
