Do Birth Control Pills Offer Protection Even Through Spotting?

Hi, I am on my third pack of birth control pills. I had breakthrough bleeding during the first two packs, and I was switched to a slightly higher dosage. I am now just having spotting but the placebo pills don't start for 8 more days. My question is -- am I still protected from pregnancy even though I'm spotting?
