Do Contraceptive Pills Prevent Pregnancy?

for the past 2months i have been taking a birth control pill and i am taking it right as per the instructions. During this period my partner and i have had unprotected sex. I would like to know how safe are the pills. also last month i got my period on the fourth day of the no pil time period but it was light and not normal. Is there a chance that i might be pregnant?
