Do High Levels Of AST And ALT Indicate Liver Failure?

my husband is a 40 yr old hispanic man with Hep C and we got his blood test back showing his ALT level is at 153, and his AST is at 88.... we have a appointment on friday to the Gastroenterologist, but we are very alarmed..... are we over reacting? do these levels show signs of liver failuar?? any info would be helpful.
