Do Oral Steroids Help The Inflammation And Pain In Chest?

I am recovering from a very stubborn upper respiratory infection which turned into severe coughing, During the coughing I felt pain in my chest wall. My doc said most likely a strained muscle or pleurisy; treatment would be the same. Since I have an allergy to all NSAID, he gave me Tramadol for pain. This afternoon, during a coughing episode, I literally felt a muscle in my chest wall either tear or otherwise pull. The pain is/was intense but I am taking only Tylenol---don t like narcotics. But when I cough the pain is severe. Would oral steroids (prescribed during treatment) help the inflammation and pain??
