Does Ceftum Have Any Side Effects On Long Term Usage?

my father aged 83 years is under going dialysis,. a wound has been formed in his right leg between knee and heel, which is not healing since more than 6 months. since 1 month he is being treated first with novapime 1mg injection twice a day for 15 days , since then he was discharged from hospital and the doctor has prescribed ceftum 500 mg tablets twice a day. the wound has not yet healed. doctor has advised to continue ceftum.Now my question is till how long the medicine has to be continued and what are its side effects and is there any other alternative medicine? early reply is requested
