Does Trazodone Have Any Adverse Side Effects?

I recently talked to my doctor about trouble sleeping. She gave me a prescription for Trazodone HCL 100 mg When I read what it was for, I am now hesitant to take it. I was looking for a simple sleep solution, but this looks to harsh for me. Can I just take 1/4 of the pill to see how that might work, or 1/2 pill?
