Does Back Pain Cause Chest Pain?

I was told that my chest pain is caused by back pain. I have degeneration in my cervical spine, and a recent MRI shows mild degeneration in the lower thoracic spine as well. I also have a cyst on my back, and a herniated lumbar disc. I have handled the cervical and lumbar problems well - with physical therapy and daily exercise. However, I am greatly concerned with the chest pain, and I am considering surgery of the cervical spine. How does back pain cause chest pain?
