Does Collapsing A Non-functioning Lung Segment With A Probe Help Improve Overall Lung Function?

My pulmanologist suggested a procedure where a probe is inserted into the lungs. Then collapse the part of the lung that does not work. Allowing the good part left to function better. Does any of these procedures work like the procedures you mentioned?
