Does Consuming Birth Control Affect Period?

I have been on Birth control for about 4 years now and recently stopped 9 months ago to "give my body a break", however i just had my doctor call in more refills for me because i would like to start them again. But since i came off BC my period was not on schedule and im not sure when my next period will come. Can i just start the pill today (Sunday)?
