Does Dilated Air Pocket In Larynx Need Surgery?

after investigations for a parilised right vocal chord I have received results of neck scan and doctor has advised there is a dilated air pocket in the right side of my larynx.I am due to see him in a few weeks but the letter advises that he may have to perform an operation to open up this small pocket.can anyone advise me what this means
