Does Drinking Alcohol Increase Shingles?

Can alcohol bring on severe pain with shingles.My husband is in his third week with shingles. Today he can t wear anything near where the shingles are. He was out having a few drinks last night, we were wondering if alcohol brings on more severe pain and itch?
