Does Ear Infection Spread To The Other Ear?

Is it normal for an Ear Infection to spread to the other Ear? I've had an ear infection in my left ear for the past day. Doctors have prescribed an Antibiotic and Numbing Solution. Just recently I've noticed the same Cloggy feeling I felt in my left ear now in my right too! It's even hard to hear in my right ear now.
