Does Having Implant Cause Irregular Periods?

Hi, my girlfriend has had an implant for about 5 months. Since she had the implant put in her periods have followed a regular pattern. However, this month she is 2 weeks overdue. I have seen they can be irregular for up to a year. We also use condoms as an extra precuation. What shou;d we do?
