Does Over Exposure To Sunlight Cause Any Side Effects?

My 91 year old mother, from Canada, is visiting me in California. She sits in the sun every morning and also takes one vitamin D tablet each day. She's had a little touch of diarreha and is wondering if it might have anything to do with too much sun plus the vitamin D? Thank you!
