Does Postponing Taking Birth Control Pills Cause Delayed Periods?

I'm on birth control (pill) and i'm going to mexico on august 21st. The place where we're going says if your on your period at this time, i can't snorkel. since its about 3 weeks away, if i stop taking my birth control & then continue taking it a week later, will my period come a week later than it's supposed to?
