Does Swelling Around Eye Suggest Shingles?

my eye doctor said that i have shingles. i woke up and it looked like someone punched me in the eye, it is so swollen and the right side of my head by my eye is also swollen. can shingles really do this? and he has me picking up medicine for it, how long will it take for the swelling to go down and my eye to open??
