Does Testicular Pain And Swelling Indicate Hernia?

I just started a workout regimen last monday in order to gain weight and last Wednesday I notices a dull pain in my left testical. It started without swelling but then began to swell and harden a little. I went to the doctor yesterday and he didn't find anything wrong. He said it could be a groin strain or a kidney stone. I don't feel any pain while lifting but could it be a hernia?
