Does The Dominant Follicle In The Ovary Cause Severe Pain?

3 years ago I had my right ovary taken away because of a large demoid cyst and 6 months ago I had a demoid removed from my left, leaving the ovary intact. After experiencing pain in my left side ovary (sharp stabbing pain) for almost a week, I had an ultrasound today which confirmed a dominant follical. The doctor seems to think this is what is causing my pain. Nearly a week later it is still sore in my pelvic area, is it normal for a dominant follical to cause pain?
