Does The Pill Start Working And Regulate The System After A Week Of Taking Contraceptives?

Hello. My question is about my birth control Ortho Tri cyclen Lo. I started it on Sunday (1st day of my period) and my doctor said that I can have sex but I have to use a back up for the next 7 days. 7 days will be this coming Sunday. My question is once its been 7 days or past seven days is the pill working and regulated into my system? Can I have unprotected sex? Can my boyfriend ejaculate inside me?
