Experiencing Severe Cramping In Both Hands, Wrists, Forearms, And In

Experiencing severe cramping in both hands, wrists, forearms, and in legs- from groin to calf. Hand cramps occur during the day, sometimes following an activity. Leg cramps either wake me up at night or occur when I first wake and attempt to move my legs off the mattress and over the side of the bed.
I've found that sometimes taking 10 mg Diazipam before "sometimes" prevents leg cramps. 5 mg Diazipam when experiencing hand cramps is sometimes beneficial.
What could be causing these "excruciating" cramps?
