For A Number Of Years I Have Been Having This

For a number of years I have been having this burning itch behide both of my ears. Once it start I can't stop , try not to scratch. So I rub til I can feel I'm rubbing my skin off. Inside the ear is not qs bad as behide the ears. My physician say it my nerve. Please help with an answer.
