For Days (worse At Night) Of Gas Pain In Upper

For days (worse at night) of gas pain in upper abdomen and chest, with a bubbling sensation in rib area on left side. Gas-X has not worked. I lie in bed for hours each night, unable to sleep until, magically, the discomfort subsides; that is, until the next evening. Is it likely there is an underlying issue here? I've never had gas with such frequency or levels of discomfort.
