For The Last Few Years, I Have Trouble Going Down

For the last few years, I have trouble going down the stairs. I have never fallen down stairs but seemed to have a fear of falling. I am often afraid of missing a step or my foot getting caught. I go down one foot at a time. Is this fear or vertigo?
