For two weeks, I have had constant soreness in my coccyx. I have had no trauma. I have tried aspirin, capsaicin patches, sauna, whirlpool, ice packs, and a heating blanket. The heat gave me some temporary relief while the heat was being administered. I have never had coccyx pain before.
In trying to figure out what is wrong with my body, I suddenly realized that I recently was hospitalized during a vacation in China for lobar pneumonia. I was in the hospital for 11 days; and the primary treatment was an IV drip with a fluoroquinolone called moxifloxacin hydrochloride. That almost cured me completely. I took pills for about 4 days after discharge; but then I stopped when I finished one blister pack. I wanted to check with my regular doctor in the US. The US doctor said to return to a broad spectrum anti-biotic for one week to be sure that we eradicate any remaining bacteria that caused the pneumonia. Because of an on-going chain of misfortunes with a mail order pharmacy, there has been a three week delay -- and I am still waiting to get the medicine. In the meantime, my chest feel fairly clear.
Three or four weeks ago, my back in the area of the kidneys started feeling mildly sore on a persistent basis.
My speculation is that either the bacteria has infected my kidneys or I may have had some reaction to the moxifloxacin. Also, while I was in China, I had a cat scan done. It showed that there was a small cyst in one kidney. The doctor did not think that the cyst was a big problem and thought that it would resolve itself over time without intervention.
Do you think that the coccyx pain that I have is related to the bacterial lobar pneumonia? I have a regularly scheduled appointment with my doctor in 2 weeks. Any suggestions?
