Good Afternoon, My Husband Has Red Sore Like Bumps On

Good afternoon, my husband has red sore like bumps on the base of his scalp. They are painful and today there is a small firm nodule also. He will not mention it to his doc, says they are just hear bumps and will go away on their own. But I am concerned. Is there something I can do for him to relieve the pain?
