HI. I am 30 weeks pregnant. Ever since I was 13 years old I have had a heart murmur due to the fact that I have grown 15 cm in one year. that was when it occured. I did not go away during puberty. I am 34 years old. That murmur was registered every time someone was listening to my lungs and hear with a stetoscope, but was told, it is okay, did an ECG, and that was pretty much it. I went to a heart echo and color doppler exam, because due to some other health issues the doctor wanted to estimate if a Ceasarean would be a best option for me. Three of them, quite young looked at that screen, and within 15 min they estimated that I have an almost fatal heart problem, a very severe aorthic stenosis, with calcifications but then they were puzzled...is it just a problem with that one blood vessel or should I need a valve replacement. I wasn't told much, she just put the papers in to my hands and told me to call my gynecologist and check in to a hospital ASAP, so as soon as I enter my 9th month of pregnancy, would they take the baby out, and as soon as I recover, perform an open heart surgery. My question is, aside of the very unethical approach of a doctor to deliver such information in such a manner to a 7 and a half months pregnant women (I don't remember how I even got home, I was sobbing in the middle of a park, pregnant, just found put I am like, about to die unless I undergo a surgery). I thank her for that info delivered in such a way, she ruined my life and my happiness. Anyways, to get to the question: HOW RELEVANT can any results be, or any examination, during pregnancy, when my diaphragm is high, pressing my lungs and heart, my heart pumping a lot more to supply both me and the baby with oxygen, my whole stomach being huge and higher, my hormonal status absolutely different than normal, my iron low, I have gained 15 kg since I became pregnant... in other words, my whole body functions on a whole different level??? i am sad, angry, if this be all true than no doctor sent me to a heart ultrasound before, I am crying most days and nights ever since, wondering if my child will have to be without me. I must stress that till two weeks ago I haven't had any problems with shortness of breath, but as I have read most women have that problem at this point of pregnancy.
