Had An Extraction A Week Ago Lost The Clot Last

Had an extraction a week ago lost the clot last night. It won't stop bleeding put another gauze in and a huge clot formed. To big to even close my teeth together so I had to dislodge it. Still bleeding. What can I do to make sure just a small clot covers the wound as I am a smoker and am terrified of getting dry socket.
