Have Been Using An Anti-snoring Device Where The Tongue Is

Have been using an anti-snoring device where the tongue is held in a small bulge in the tip of the device by suction . Seems to work but have recently had swollen and dry lips, sore tongue and inflammation on inside of mouth. Also, mouth seems very dry at times. Could the device be causing this reaction. Stopped using it over last two days and some improvement of symptoms but still slightly swollen lips and tongue sore .
No change in diet or medication . Have had a history of cold sores periodically (2 times a year?) .
