Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello - I had my yearly physical exam on Sept. 23rd & today I was told that my white blood cells were low (3). I did not ask about the laboratory's measuring guide. I did find out that I have gallstones & low vitamin D.
2yrs ago my doctor questioned if any family members had a history of liver disease or hepatitis. He mentioned that a test showed that my bilirubin was high (possible Gilbert's Syndrome...had jaundice-like eyes since childhood) but besides that he had no real concern. My white blood cells were low then however my battery of tests showed no compromised immune system, specifically HIV.
Health history: I am a Vegan, 41 y/o African American woman, since the age of 20 y/o I have HSV 2 with occasional manageable outbreaks. I was on weight loss pills (diuretics) during the month of my exam. And a month prior, my husband and I found out we were pregnant and had an abortion.
My mother had breast cancer but died from congestive heart failure & my dad died from cirrhosis of the liver. My doctor says that I am in good health for 41yrs old.
My question...could the factors in which I had my blood drawn could be the reason why my white blood cells are low? Those factors being... having HSV 2 for the past 20yrs and taking diuretics?
