Hello After My Bone Density Scan, I Was Prescribed Alendronic

After my bone density scan, I was prescribed Alendronic Acid and took it for nearly 8 months but the side effects were impossible to live with - I've had sore jaws with loose teeth and loss of a toenail hair loss, muscular and bone pain severe mouth ulcers and with something that resembled an acid burn at the corner of my mouth eventually I stopped taking this drug in middle December 2015.
GP's advice to take painkillers etc but I could not continue the side effects were very debilitating Can you proffer some advice as to what I should have done
