Hello Doctor, I Just Found Out Today That My Girlfriend

Hello Doctor,
I just found out today that my girlfriend is being tested for herpes. Her husband of 20 years was an iv drug user. the last time they had sex was about 17 years ago. Is there a chance that she was a dormant carrier all of that time or did I unknowingly infect her?
