Hello Dr. - In A Discussion About The Symptoms Of

Hello Dr. - In a discussion about the symptoms of our shared cold, my husband's family thought I was absolutely wrong to perceive that there are openings in the roof of my mouth that connect to my nasal passages. I have had them all my life (46 years), and thought everybody else did too. I use them when I have congestion to get it to drop into my mouth to spit out- it is easier than trying to cough it out from the connection at the back of my throat. When I don't have congestion they go pretty much unnoticed/ unused; however as a kid I almost had to get tubes in my ears and feel that I was more prone to ear congestion because of these openings on my hard palate. I am so surprised to learn that everybody isn't made like me. I would appreciate any information, references/ resources- so curious! Thank you.
