Hello
I am a 47 y.o female Physiotherapist working on a rehab unit in a community general hospital. After about two years of night sweats, and no support in solving the issue, I sought out a Family Physician and Naturopath who deal with female hormonal concerns. After bloodwork demonstrated that all my hormones were extremely low, basically like menopause, I started using bioidentical hormone ( ) to assist with the symptoms. I knew I had a significant family history (grandmother, two aunts, cousin (thyroid tumour) positive for thyroid issues) for thyroid, therefore I asked this Physician (not my Family Physician) for a thyroid US and bloodwork. I asked her to palpate my sore neck and small lump that I felt on the left side of the thyroid. (Make sure you palpate your clients) She agreed to order the tests. Results came back today - US - thyroid enlarged, cyst on R side and node on the left side. I am sure the bloodwork will be positive for hyperthyroid.
I have been having increasing symptoms of night sweats, L arm numbness, rapid heart rate waking me up at night, and pain in my neck. The L side of my brachial plexus is very swollen and aches.
It is unfortunate that the night sweats were overlooked by my doctor and brushed off as peri-menopause for the last two years! These were intense night sweats and not having experience with peri-menopause I accepted the explanation!! Should have known as this did not feel right.
I am concerned as my symptoms appear to be worsening. I hope to be able to be referred to an Endocrinologist at our hospital very soon. Is it likely that these are benign tumours/cyst? Will they remove them? How will this affect my hormones? What do you suggest as next steps.
Thank you very much.
