Hello.
I am a FTM transgender looking to start testosterone. A little over a year ago I had DVT in my arm. This was caused by an accident where I broke my collarbone, and was told by a less then experienced doctor not to move my arm or be active for 3 months. On top of which I was on a birth control that has high clotting risks, and was smoking fairly heavily. Once I was given the proper care instructions and put on warfarin for the minimum duration the DVT cleared up with no problem.
The doctor I am consulting with is hesitant to start my HRT because of this past DVT. He wants to consult a hemotologist, and I want to do my own consulting. There is no underlying medical condition, no history or pre-disposition of clotting in my family. All preliminary blood work came back clear and I am healthy as a horse. I have quit smoking, am no longer on birth control of any kind, live a very active life style, exercise 3-5 days a week and eat very healthy.
What I would like to know is if the risk factors are really enough to disclude me from HRT, or if he is just being exessivley cautious. There are not a lot of resources for the trans community where I live, and I want as much information as I can get. Anything you can pass my way would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your time.
