Hello, I Am Concerned About My Boyfriend. He Experiences What

Hello, I am concerned about my boyfriend.
He experiences what I believe to be seizures. They only happen in his sleep and his body will stiffen up for a few moments and then he will start shaking. His whole body shakes and when he comes out of it he is gasping for breath and takes a few moments (a minute or two) to be alright and breathing normally again. In the past he has gone to the doctor and they prescribed him psychiatric drugs and psychotherapy, which did not help. They then prescribed him some medication that is a whole bunch of vitamins and minerals. One to help with memory loss, agitaion, and the third to help with the combination. He recently had a very bad seizure (or what I believe to be a seizure) and when he woke up he was staring blankly and not responding for a several minutes and then would come to and ask us the same question that he did several minutes ago. He would then lie down and fall back asleep and after being asleep for five minutes he would have another seizure and wake up and do the same thing again. My best friend and I tried to keep him awake and moving but he fell asleep again and when he woke up he did not remember the past six months. After staying awake for about fifteen minutes he fell asleep again for another ten minutes or so and woke back up with all of his memory in tact, short and long term. After this he fell asleep again and started to have another seizure and I cuddled up next to him and provided pressure to his heart and held his tightly and the seizure subsided, not only five minutes later he had another seizure so I repeated the same process and it worked and he woke up and was very drowzy and confused it took him ten minutes to gain full consiousness again and after that he has not had another seizure. I am not sure what tests doctors have done on him in the past but I am unsure as to what the best steps are for him. Should we take him to the doctor and have him referred to a neuroloigist ? Any advice would be helpful and appreciated.
