Hello. I don't have a lot of facts because I don't have medical records and have not yet spoken to my brother's doctor. My brother had adenocarcinoma of the esophagus and received radiation and chemotherapy and was told that the cancer had not spread to the lymph nodes. He did have a problem eating, however, during this time and lost a significant amount of weight. He had to have a feeding tube and gained a little weight before his surgery to remove the tumor at the bottom of his esophagus. He was told that the cancer was contained but the operation would be long and complicated because the tumor was so close to the stomach. What happened was a shock to us all. When they went in they found that the cancer had metastasized to the stomach, and I am not sure what other organs, but they took out his total esophagus, his total stomach, small intestine (I think) and pancreas. Maybe something else but I don't remember. How could this happen? Is it possible for the PT Scan to be incorrect in finding these problems. We thought he had Stage I cancer tumor and now he is Stage IV with many organs removed and having a very difficult time. Have you ever seen something like this? We were all expecting one thing but then we get all these metastases. Thank you. Phyllis
