Hello, I Had A Problem For A Long Time With

I had a problem for a long time with a weird ,odd like smell, especially when i was outdoors or if im in the kitchen cooking the awful smell can be picked up from 2 houses away.It seems as if food is triggering it...Morning air is usually bad too. I went to my ENT doctor last week to see what the problem was.He did a swab of my nasal area and the test came back positive for cintrobacter.He put me on sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim for 3 weeks to cure this.I want to know how did I get this and how long does it take to kill it and could it return?
