Hello. I Have A Friend Who Has Developed A Cyst

Hello. I have a friend who has developed a cyst on his left shoulder blade. He went to the doctor and he is on antibiotics and he puts hot compress on it. He said it had drained some but it again is getting bigger. What would cause this that grows and he said it is painful? Thank you
