Hello! I have a question regarding heart pain. To give some background: I am female, and I am nineteen years of age. I'm definitely overweight if not obese (5'11" and about 184lbs) - if that helps to factor anything in. I've maintained this weight for the past two years because I have hereditary Rheumatoid Arthritis, which makes it difficult to exercise adequately and frequently. I also understand that RA can affect organs and damage them, which is why I felt that this was pertinent information.
I definitely do not have a very healthy diet (pizza, chips, etc) and I usually have at least one (1) can of diet soda per day. This heart pain has been occurring on and off for the past year at least, however it seems much more frequent and severe in the recent months. The pain is definitely not heartburn, because I'm very familiar with heartburn and I can certainly rule that out.
The pain is located and the left center area of my chest and the pain occurs during eating, and for hours after eating. I would describe the pain as feeling like a tightness, as if my heart is being squeezed. Occasionally (usually at night when trying to rest) my heart will beat abnormally - sometimes it'll beat really fast or hard, and other times it feels slower.
The chest pain is not located anywhere else on my chest (such as center or right). I do not experience dizziness or weakness, nor shortness of breath, (I may experience shortness of breath during physical exercise but I'm out of shape so that's normal I presume). Pretty frequently my left arm feels a bit numb, even when laying down on my right side. Sometimes my left leg will go a bit numb if I sit a certain way, which never used to happen before.
I suspect that I have issues with blood sugar as well, due to the fact that I get very shaky within just a couple of hours of eating, especially if I have eaten poorly.
I'm worried (or terrified, more accurately) that I may have heart disease. I'm worried that it's not a disease that may be reversible with proper diet and exercise. I've been remedying the heart issues with 90k H.U. (heat units) of organic cayenne pepper daily, as well as a couple of aspirin per day.
In your professional opinion(s), what do you think it is most likely I'm dealing with? I want a good idea of what it may be before I ask my PCP for a referal to a cardiologist. Even then, if I were to be diagnosed with heart disease, what advice would they give me for treatment? A better diet and adding an exercise routine to my lifestyle?
Could eating an abundance of plain rolled, cooked oats (2-3 bowls per day, for example) be helpful? I've always heard that they're good for heart health. As well as adding some more veggies (mainly frozen vegetables because they're affordable) and maybe a bit of fruit to my diet? Should I cut out my daily can of diet soda and switch to drinking water as much as possible also? Do you think taking the cayenne pepper daily is beneficial? Lastly, do you think purchasing a weighted hula hoop for exercise would be adequate for strengthening the heart and burning fat?
I apologize for the long-winded explanation and subsequent questions, but I hope all of this information is helpful for you, and I thank you in advance for your time!
