Hello,
I have heard a whooshing sound in my right ear for the last 3 months. It happens whenever I turn my head to the right, when I look up/down, and sometimes when I am just sitting still.
I have had an MRI done on my ear/brain and it did not show anything abnormal. I also had an ultrasound done on my neck and it showed that the carotid artery is functioning properly with no apparent blockages. I have seen an ENT and was informed that there is nothing abnormal. I was not too pleased with the ENT as he only spent about 2 mintues assessing me. I have also seen a neurologist and he had said he has never heard of a problem like this before where the whooshing sound is not constant. He claims that usually when there is something wrong neurologically, that the whooshing sound is constant. He took a look at my MRI scans and said that there is nothing to worry about from a neurological standpoint.
What could the problem be? I have done so much research over the past 3 months to try to find a solution because this is driving me absolutely insane. It has completely ruined my quality of life. Could this be due to a dysfunctioning of the Eustachian tube? Could it be due to a problem in my neck? I should also mention that I was sick with a throat infection just before this started to happen. I also had heard a ripping sound in my neck too one night before this started to happen as well.
When I press on my neck below my chin, the whooshing goes away, even when I move my head in any direction. Could this have something to do with the Tonsils? I figure it has to do something with that part of the neck because why else would the noise stop when applying pressure to that area? I am prone to throat infections. I usually get 2 per year. I am wondering if I should have my tonsils removed? Also, I have been icing and heating that area that past few days. I find that after I do so, the whooshing sound is not as strong for a few minutes after applying the ice or heat.
Please advise me of any possible solutions you may have. I just want things to go back to normal. My quality of life has been severely diminished.
Thank you in advance for your help.
