Hello, I'm 40 Weeks Pregnant. Around 35 Weeks I Noticed

Hello, I'm 40 weeks pregnant. Around 35 weeks I noticed my belly fat underneath the pregnant belly was harder to the touch and almost 'honeycombed' in a lumpy pattern. When pressed it will create an indention lasting a minute or more. I asked my midwife about and she said she had never seen it before. I've never experienced this before and assume it's pregnancy related. What could it be and will it go away with pregnancy?
