Hello, I'm a 27 year old, 5'0" female, weighing 130 lbs. I recently had an abdominal and pelvic CT scan done, which yielded results of:
Prominent right lower quadrant lymph nodes within the mesentery adjacent to the cecum. If the patient has a previous history of malignancy of the appendix, neoplastic etiology may be considered versus reactive mesenteritis.
Medical History:
April 28, 2010 had hand-assisted laparoscopic subtotal colectomy to treat colonic intertia. To memory, part of sigmoid colon remains.. an attachment made via ileum. Upon research of the specimen, the doctor informed me that i had "early stage appendiceal carcinoma"-- I do not have the details on this as he insisted that I "...should be fine" since the speciment was removed. I inquired about following up on this and he said that he didn't find it necessary. My PCP, now fully aware of this, feels that followup should have been executed. I am aware that GI carcinoids can spread or seed.
I have been experiencing (since late spring) new and disturbing symptoms including: rashes, leg and foot numbness, fatigue, loss of appetite and easily full following eating, frequent facial, neck, and chest flushing, which has now spread to include my hands. Episodes of flushing have increased in frequency and duration. Anxiety has increased significantly and there appears to be a loss of focus and poor memory (focus and memory issues are completely new).
I am doing a F/U CT scan and am seeing a GI specialist immediately, but given this information, I am worried that this may be one of the more "rare" situations that everyone panics over.
Additional note: I have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis with multiple nodules that are monitored. Previous biopsy did not indicate malignancy. Levothyroxine is taken daily and TSH levels are on target.
Thanks for your help
