Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello, I'm a 62 year old Caucasian woman. I just had a bone density scan that determined I am no longer osteopenia but now have osteoporosis. Most of my bone loss is in my hips. I take Levothyroxin 88 mg once a day and I understand that this drug caused boneless. I have hypothyroid and have been on thyroid meds for 20 years. My PCP is recommending that I take 1200-1500 mg of calcium a day plus 1000-2000 IU of Vit D a day. I have over the counter Costco brand Calcium Citrate with Vit D3. Looks like I need to take 5 tables a day to get these numbers. I have a hard time getting 5 big calcium tabs down every day. Should I make myself do this or should I get a prescription calcium tablet? I prefer to take the most natural approach and I'm afraid of side effects from prescription drugs. Thanks .... Nicki
